Summary of Responsibilities

The Line Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations and leading a team to maintain high standards of quality while meeting departmental objectives. This role involves guiding team performance, ensuring operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and quality excellence. Strong leadership, clear communication, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality outcomes are essential for aligning team efforts with organizational goals.

Summary of Activities

Responsibilities Activities
Leadership Manages and directs personnel in performing operations according to sound operating principles and company policies and procedures
Lead initiatives to improve processes, efficiency and quality through data-driven decision making and continuous improvement practices
Communicates production schedule and other related information to team leaders and department employees
Monitor individual and team performance, set clear goals and conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions
Provide direct leadership, supervision and support to a team, fostering a positive, productive and quality focused work environment
Backs up other Line Managers as needed
Actively supports Mission, Vision and Values. Holds employees accountable for behavior to support MVV
Safety Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the team by setting a positive example and reinforcing safe work practices
Ensure all team members follow company safety policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
Conduct daily safety checks for the work area, equipment and tools to identify and address potential hazards
Immediately report safety incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions to EH&S and assist in investigations as needed
Verify all team members are always using required personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly
Support new employee safety orientation and ongoing safety training for the team
Encourage and support team participation in safety improvement initiatives and hazard reporting programs
Regularly review and reinforce safe operating procedures and best practices on the production floor
Lead or participate in safety meetings and debriefings to keep safety top of mind
Quality System Leads with a high focus on quality and “right first time” attitude.
Actively supports quality system
Uses problem solving tools to drive improvement
Ensures that quality standards and expectations are met.
Coordinates quality programs with Quality Engineers. Demonstrates ability to understand and implement quality assurance and production programs and procedures
Operations Management Reviews charts to identify underperformance causes and apply corrective action measures
Ensures production schedule is met by the departments within the scope of responsibility
Responsible for the development of standardized work practices for the line
Maintains operations within budget
Coordinates work-in process planning and final release to down stream operations
Establishes 5S plans to maintain good housekeeping
Anticipates and determines causes of delays in operations and takes appropriate action to meet schedules
Communicate effectively with senior management and cross-functional teams to align priorities, quality metrics and performance goals
Workforce Management Conducts introductory and quarterly performance reviews for employees and recommends increases, retraining, transfers and/or terminations
Prepares for and actively participates in daily production meetings
Communicates production updates daily
Recommends the employment and separation of employees are required
Manages workforce to achieve retention objectives
Identifies training needs and support ongoing development of team members to enhance both skills and quality awareness

Technical Skills/Competencies (Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business management or related field
  • Five years prior manufacturing / management experience
  • Computer knowledge with Microsoft products and e-mail usage
  • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role

  • Ability to manage multiple task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, and hear, reach with hands and arms, stand, crouch, and kneel; frequently required to use hand to finger dexterity in order to handle objects, tools, and/or controls; occasionally required to stoop or crawl. Ability to meet travel requirements. Ability to interface with computers and electronic communication devices at acceptable productivity and quality levels.
