Summary of Responsibilities

The Process Engineer will drive improvements throughout fabrication and assembly operations. This role will collaborate with design engineering, production, quality assurance, and subject matter experts to determine best practices, process documentation, training, and process improvements. The Process Engineer will facilitate and lead dynamic teams to drive improvement projects that result in capable and robust products and processes and develop a highly skilled and empowered workforce.

Summary of Activities

Responsibilities Activities
Identify, develop, and implement robust process improvements focused on safety, quality, and production Collaborate with subject matter experts (SME’s) to identify, develop, and implement improvements that will positively impact safety, quality, and production.
Develop process documentation including one-point lessons, visual aids, work instructions, and training Collaborate with subject matter experts (SME’s) to document critical process and activities and that the workforce is trained to these documents/systems.
Support and ensure successful launch of new products and processes, materials, and process improvements into manufacturing Introduce process, product, and material changes, and process improvements into manufacturing and ensure successful launch and transition into production.
Monitor and improve safety, quality, and the effectiveness of manufacturing processes through measurements and observations Develop new and improve current measurement systems and data collection methods.
Collect, interpret, and act upon data from technical and manufacturing personnel Utilize Excel/other statistical packages to analyze data for trends, improvement opportunities, and to measure impact of improvements.
Develop and implement process controls and error proofing techniques and devices Develop methods and tools to improve process control, eliminate the potential from errors occurring, and improve detection if an error has occurred.
Apply engineering best practices across multiple production lines and processes Proliferate learnings across all applicable processes and personnel. Participate in the DBCM Quality Council to share best practices with sister companies.
Promote and drive collaboration and teamwork to achieve objectives Leverage cross-functional teams to solve problems and develop and implement improvements.
Coordinate and facilitate process improvements with manufacturing leadership and personnel Effectively communicate and include all necessary levels of the organization. Understand and effectively communicate to stakeholders.
Collaborate with design engineering, production and quality assurance leadership and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other business functions to facilitate process standardization, optimization, and innovation Facilitate the improvement cycle of standardization, optimization, innovation, and learning across functions.
Proactively support the implementation of quality management system improvements Identify and execute quality management system (QMS) improvements

Technical Skills/Competencies (Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience)

  • Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred, commensurate experience considered
  • 2 or more years of engineering experience in manufacturing preferred: co-op/intern experience considered
  • Knowledge and application of Continuous Improvement tools, i.e., Lean, PDCA, 6 Sigma, and TOC
  • Knowledgeable in computer skills (CAD systems, Microsoft products, Internet use and e-mail

  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds with assistance, regularly require to walk, talk and hear, reach with hands and arms, stand, crouch and kneel; frequently required to use hand finger dexterity in order to handle objects, tools, and/or controls; occasionally required to stoop or crawl
